Mike Lamoureux Passes

Trot Insider has learned that horseman Mike Lamoureux has passed away at the age of 32.

It has been said that the essential joy of surrounding yourself with horses is that it brings you into contact with the rare elements of grace, beauty, spirit and fire, all at once. Without question, that is how Michel (Mike) Lamoureux, 32, lived his life.

A third generation horsemen, Mike has been a licensed trainer since 2002, with 1,846 starts, 324 wins, 242 seconds, 243 thirds, with a total earnings in excess of $1.5 million and a 0.373 UTRS average.

His love for horses and fishing was surpassed only by his love for his family. It is with heavy hearts that his family announces Mike’s sudden passing on October 23, 2014. He was profoundly loved and will be forever remembered by his wife, MJ (née Pappin); his two young sons, Jacob and Jordan; his parents, Yvon and Nicole; his sister, Aline (Chad Sauvé); his parents-in-law, Karen Pappin and Jimmy Pappin (Peggy); Arne Pappin and Lori Baggett-Pappin; Merrill and Donald Young; his nieces, Athena and Olivia Young; and the extended Lamoureux and Pappin families.

A private, family service will be held to honour Mike and celebrate his spirit’s next journey. Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorial donations to a trust fund established for the benefit of his children (cheques payable to “In Trust for Jacob and Jordan Lamoureux”) would be deeply appreciated and mailed to Scotiabank 3454 Errington Street, Chelmsford, Ontario, P0M 1L0 or call (705) 855-4552 and ask for Transit #.

This is shocking news, just a few weeks ago, at an off-track betting site, I told a friend that I liked Mike as a trainer, he knew what he was doing, this really shook me, at such a young age, in the prime of life. To all his family, my deepest condolences. R.I.P. Mike.
