Trot Insider has learned that longtime Alberta standardbred owner and breeder Ralph McNalley passed away on Friday, October 4 at the age of 76.

Ralph was a prominent part of the Alberta standardbred racing community since the early 1980’s. He was a great, caring friend to many people as well as the animals he so loved. Most notably Ralph was a proud owner of his amazing mare, That Anna Bell, and also his beloved Glance My Way, Arctic Flame, and many more.

Ralph had a way with animals and people that made them feel comfortable around him. The care he took of the horses and expected others to care for them was known by many. He always valued the horses and the people that cared for, trained, and drove for him, and treated them all with great respect and gratitude. Whether they cleaned a stall, swept the shedrow, trained or drove, he treated them as part of the team that brought him success in the industry, and gave credit to the team.

To always treasure his memory are his caring wife of 53 years Elizabeth McNalley, son Randy McNalley and Natasha, grandchildren Lexie and Jayde McNalley and their mother Laurie McNalley, son-in-law Loren Telawsky and grandchildren Justine and Jake Telawsky, brother John and sister-in-law Diane McNalley as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and his friends in the Standardbred racing community. Ralph was predeceased by his daughter Connie Telawsky.

The family would like to express their gratefulness and appreciation to the doctors and staff of the Royal Alexandria Hospital intensive care unit.

The family will be having a Celebration of Ralph's Life on Friday, October 18 at the Bonnie Doon Community League Hall, 9240 - 93 Street, Edmonton, Alta. at 5:30 p.m. Dinner will be held at 7 p.m. (cash bar).
