Jimmie Chestnut Passes

Standardbred breeder/owner Jimmie A. Chestnut, 72, of Allegan, Mich., passed away on January 21 at the Allegan General Hospital.

Chestnut was born August 24, 1941, in Watervliet, the son of the late Jimmie and Virginia (Smith) Chestnut. He graduated from the Allegan High School in 1959.

He farmed in the Allegan area most of his life. He loved the Allegan County Fair, racing horses, and tractor pulls with the ‘Wild Thing.’ He was a former member of the USTA.

Chestnut is survived by his wife, Ann; children, Janel Mankin and Jarrod; grandchildren, Reed, Jack, Lucille, Hanna, Jaxson and Jasper; brothers, Harry (Jan) and Charles (Jane); and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be no public services at this time. A celebration of his life will be held in the spring.
