Maurice Danko Passes

Longtime horseman Maurice Danko of Simcoe, Ont. passed away Wednesday morning in hospital at the age of

69.

Danko is survived by wife Joyce, daughters Lori and Sue (Gangell), son Maurie and three grandchildren.

An owner and trainer for many years, one of Danko's biggest success stories in harness racing was Jayport Worthy Vic. Purchased for $6,300 as a yearling in the fall of 1984, the Worthy Bowl colt set numerous track records in a 10-win rookie campaign that netted him nearly $100,000 in earnings and CTA divisional honours.

We are so sorry to hear of Junior's passing. I always enjoyed my visits with him and always appreciated his insight on training. He was an excellent horseman.

My deepest condolences on the loss of Maurice. I just the other day was looking at some old win pictures, one of which was Honest Baron, the first horse I ever owned with Jr.
