Spam Spade, who has notched victories this year in the New Jersey Sire Stakes and the Bluegrass Stakes, has been installed as the 2-1 morning line favourite in the $100,000 final of the Charles I. Smith on October 24 at Freehold Raceway.

The 'Smith' is restricted to New Jersey-sired three-year-old trotters and is sponsored by the Standardbred Breeders & Owners Association of New Jersey.

Spam Spade holds the Freehold track record for three-year-old trotting geldings with his 1:55.4 effort on August 15 in the opening round of the New Jersey Sire Stakes. He also won the $85,000 NJSS final on September 5.

After a second-place finish in the Old Oaken Bucket at Ohio's Delaware County Fair, Spam Spade moved on to Lexington's Red Mile where he won a $106,200 division of the Bluegrass.

This year the son of Dream Vacation-Chynatown, bred by Perretti Farms of Cream Ridge, New Jersey, has five wins and two seconds from 12 starts for $142,990 in earnings toward a career total of $156,020.

Spam Spade is a Miller family project. He is driven by Andy Miller, trained by Julie Miller and owned by the Andy Miller Stable Inc. of Millstone, NJ.

The stakes record for the Smith is 1:57 and it was set in 2007 by Princetonian, also a son of Dream Vacation. Sierra Marvel, a filly, will be one of the six entrants contesting the event Friday.
