On Saturday, September 27, four-year-old thoroughbred colt Curlin became the richest racehorse in North American history, as he captured the $750,000 Jockey Gold Cup at Belmont Park, pushing his career earnings to $10.25 million.

The previous North American earnings record, which stood for 12 years, was held by Cigar, who banked $9,999,815.

Since resetting the North American earnings mark Saturday, Curlin has been shipped west to California and will possibly be entered to contest the Breeders' Cup Classic Saturday, October 25.
