Atlantic Breeders Crown This Weekend

Published: October 8, 2008 11:00 am EDT

The Atlantic Breeders Crown gets underway this weekend at the Charlottetown Driving Park, and a last call has been sent out for the popular golf tournament.

The Atlantic Breeders Crown is the season-ending championship for the Atlantic Sires Stakes program, which showcased the best young horses in the Maritimes this year. The top two and three-year-old pacers and trotters have earned the right to participate in this racing event. This year $134,000 in purse money will be at stake, making it a rich weekend of harness racing excitement.

The weekend of activities includes the Atlantic Breeders Crown golf tournament and Atlantic Classic Yearling Sale on Friday, October 10. Saturday's events include the consolation race program and the Atlantic Breeders Crown reception and banquet.

This year's banquet will honour harness racing excellence, as the owners of all 48 horses participating in the pacing finals and trotting events will receive special presentations. This is a new addition to the banquet and it's hoped all owners will be in attendance to receive well-earned recognition for a great year of racing.

The banquet will also feature the ownership group of Somebeachsomewhere, Schooner Stables, as the guest speakers. Tickets for the gala event are $35 each and are available from the Harness Racing PEI office.

The weekend of champions will draw to a close on Sunday, as the Atlantic Breeders Crown finals will highlight the race card in Charlottetown.

First race post time on Sunday is 1:00 p.m.
