OSS Grassrooters will be on the lookout for late season points in the race to this month’s Semi Finals, and that was the case in many instances Tuesday evening at Mohawk Racetrack.

The Campbellville, Ontario oval featured six OSS Grassroots divisions for two-year-old trotting fillies, who are just ten days away from the OSS Grassroots Semi-Finals.

Magical Lass turned a ground-saving trip into a 1:59.1 victory in her $18,000 assignment for driver Paul MacDonell and trainer Richard ‘Nifty’ Norman. The daughter of Kadabra-Priceless Lass watched Fiery Eyes throw down first-half fractions of :28.1 and 1:00.1 before charging to the lead. Once in command, Magical Lass took the field past the three-quarter pole in 1:30.1 before using a :29-second closing quarter en route to the half-length score over race favourite Mass Rail in 1:59.1. LMC Marshmellow was third.

The homebred, owned by Mel Hartmann of Ottawa and R A W Equine Inc of Burlington, Ontario, won for the first time in five tries. She’s banked more than $11,000 to date.

The Murmuring Pan took over the lead at the half in her assignment, and once she grabbed the lead it was game over for the others. Giona supplied the :27.4 opening quarter, but The Murmuring Pan brushed to the top at the half in 1:00. She led the field to the three-quarter pole in 1:30 before rocketing home in :28.2 for the 1:58.2 victory. Giona was 5-1/4 lengths back in second, with third prize going to Desis Dream.

Paul Reid trains the homebred daughter of Kadabra-Epangeline for Peter Pan Stables Inc of Pepper Pike, Ohio. The win was the second of the season in four tries for the career winner of $18,000.

Tymal Illbthere notched a final stride score in the third division, much to the delight of the favourite players that made her the even-money choice. Chris Christoforou tucked the filly into an early three-hole while Muscle Kit front-stepped through fractions of :28, :58.2 and 1:28.3. Tymal Illbethere was first-over going into the final turn, and she used a :28.1 closing panel to win by a neck over Summers Jewel in 1:57.1. Muscle Kit faded late and settled for third prize.

Erv Abdulov trains the daughter of Deweycheatumnhowe-Ill Wait For You for Tymal Farms, Tim Varey and Shawn Dixon. The rookie improved her record to 1-3-1 from six starts with the victory. The $9,000 payday bumped her earnings to $37,660.

Second Sister lowered her lifetime record to 1:58.1 with a come-from-behind score for Team McNair in the fourth division. The daughter of Deweycheatumnhowe-Sister Sammy was parked every step of the mile – and three-wide at the three-quarter pole – but that didn’t stop her from prevailing by a neck over longshot Magic Shelley. Railee Priti was third.

Jarold Hawks of Jeddo, Michigan owns the productive performer who boasts a 2-2-1 record in her first six attempts. She’s earned just shy of $30,000 to date.

Wing Flash turned a two-hole trip into a 1:57.3 score in the fifth division for trainer/driver Wayne Henry. The daughter of Kadabra-Armbro Everlasting chopped out the first quarter in :28.2 before pocketing up behind Stay In Touch who then laid down middle splits of :57.3 and 1:27.3. Henry rallied his filly out of the pocket in the lane and she used a :29.4 closing quarter to win by 1-3/4 lengths over Stay In Touch. Hape came on to nab the show dough.

Sent off at odds of 9-1, Wing Flash won for the second time in seven tries for Henry Stable of Arthur and Daylon Farms Ltd of Komoka, Ontario. Her share of the loot lifted her lifetime earnings to $30,725.

Bistrobistro Taj barely broke a sweat en route to winning the final division in a career-best clocking of 1:57.3 for trainer/driver Rick Zeron. The daughter of Pilgrims Taj-Freda Hall sat second behind La Bella Rose through an opening quarter of :27.3 before rushing to the front and laying down remaining splits of :58.1 and 1:28.2. She rolled home in :29.1 and won by 3-3/4 lengths over Mets Life, with Judy The Beauty taking home third prize.

Sent off as the 2-5 favourite, Bistrobistro Taj improved her freshman record to 2-1-1 from five tries with the win. Her bankroll climbed to $58,250 for 9215 6447 Quebec Inc of Montreal, Quebec.
