Paula Campbell, wife of Hall of Fame driver John Campbell and advocate for retired racehorses, will be honoured as the 2017 Lady Pace Honouree during the Grand Circuit meet at the Delaware County Fair.
A native of Detroit, Michigan, Campbell is the co-founder and president of the Standardbred Retirement Foundation, a non-profit organization created to care for, rehabilitate, and secure lifetime adoption of non-competitive racehorses.
Paula Campbell also participated as a driver while competing in the Billings Amateur Drivers Series in the 1990s.
The Campbell’s won the 1982 Little Brown Jug with Merger and also campaigned horses under the banner of Having Fun Stable, winning an elimination of the Jugette in 1994 with Thisoldheartofmine.
“I want to thank the Little Brown Jug Society for acknowledging me. I am very humbled and grateful for this honour. The Little Brown Jug is a wonderful event that I look forward to every year. Winning with Merger, a horse John and I owned, in 1982 is still one of our biggest thrills,” noted Campbell. “Harness racing has been so ingrained in my family and life and I am so grateful for this honour. Looking forward to a great day of racing.”
Campbell will be honoured in a winner’s circle ceremony after a division of the Ohio Breeders Championship for three-year-old filly pacers on Jug Day.
