Odds-on favourite Big Surf just held on to win the featured $2,400 Preferred Pace on Saturday, Sept. 3 at Charlottetown Driving Park.

Big Surf secured the lead by the quarter-pole and nosed out the pocket-pulling Clic K at the finish line in 1:54.1 for his second win of the year in Charlottetown. Corey MacPherson drove the five-year-old son of Somebeachsomewhere, who was a runner-up in the James 'Roach' MacGregor Memorial in his last start during Old Home Week, for trainer Trevor Hicken and owners Robin, Perry and Luke Burke. Smiley Bayama finished two lengths behind in third.

Drivingthedragon N also lasted on the lead as the race favourite in the $2,250 Mares Open Handicap, holding off Alittleeastermagic by three-quarters of a length for a 1:57.2 triumph. Owned by Don MacRae, the seven-year-old Sutter Hanover mare earned her first victory in P.E.I. following a third-place effort last Saturday since joining the Jason Hughes stable.
