Hoerdt Trainees Finish 1-2 In Open

The Kelly Hoerdt stable's Kokanee Seelster and Iwontdothatagain topped the Open pacers at Century Downs on Sunday afternoon, finishing 1-2 in the $9,000 feature.

Parked out through opening panels of :27.3 and :56.2 by Read The Proposal, Kokanee Seelster and driver Bill Tainsh Jr. eventually took over the lead down the backstretch and opened up three lengths by three-quarters in 1:25 while stablemate Iwontdothatagain, who was assigned the outside post, rallied three-wide from the back of the six-pack with Hoerdt in the bike. Kokanee Seelster cruised home a three-length winner in 1:53.2 with Iwontdothatagain chasing in second. The Glenn Lutz-trained Phanatical Maniac and Nathan Sobey finished almost eight lengths back in third.

Kokanee Seelster paid $8.70 to win as the 3-1 second choice to Iwontdothatagain. The four-year-old Camluck-Kiddie Cocktail gelding is owned by Kelly Hoerdt and Blair Corbeil of Beaumont, Alta. He has won his last two of four starts since being claimed on July 24 at Century Downs for $20,000. Lifetime, Kokanee Seelster has won 12 races and $137,092 in purses.
