Cam Cool Proves Gritty At Inverness

Veteran pacer Cam Cool ($6.70) used a first-over push up the far side to wear down pacesetter Danny William before staving off a late rally from favourite Euchred to capture Sunday afternoon’s (September 24) featured $1,500 winners-over pacing event at Inverness Raceway.

Alex MacQuarrie was content to sit third with the 13-year-old Camluck gelding in the early stages of the race, stalking Danny William (Alexander MacNeil) and Euchred (Walter Walker) through early fractions of :29.1 and :57.3 before angling first-over up the far side on the second occasion. Cam Cool overpowered Danny William on the far turn before digging in and repelling Euchred’s late lunge by a scant nose to claim victory in 1:58.2. A Bs Future (Alexander MacDonald) closed ground belatedly from mid-division to take third, just 1-1/4 lengths back.

James Copley trains 73-time winner Cam Cool for owners Ann Copley and Evan Gillis. For Cam Cool, the win was his third in five starts in September. The featured win capped a bookend double for MacQuarrie, who shared top driving honours on the seven-race card with Ross MacInnis.
