Calvin B Wins Vernon Feature

Calvin B took the $11,400 Open Pace at Vernon Downs on Saturday, September 23.

Golden Gun fired to take the lead and put up early fractions of :26.2, :54.4, and 1:22.0. Calvin B, who is owned by Dolores Smiel and trained by Heidi Rohr, went first over and took over at the top of the stretch, holding off a late bid from Oh My Joepa to win in 1:50. Oh My Joepa was second with Andreios Kardia finishing third.

Calvin B won for the sixth time this season and for the 27th time in his career. Driven by Chris Lems, he paid $5.40 to win.

All Charged Up won the $9,000 Filly and Mare Feature, being one of five victories on the card for driver John MacDonald.

All Charged Up charged to the lead and put up all the fractions, going :26.1, :54.1, and 1:24.1 before winning in 1:54.1. Walk Two Moons applied pressure through three-quarters before fading into the stretch.

All Charged Up, who is owned by J P Stables and trained by MacDonald, pullled away by sixth lengths in the end to capture her fourth race of the season. Love Live Laugh took second and Dw'sblissfulthinkn got third. All Charged Up paid $2.90 to win.

Vernon's leading-driver John MacDonald also got victories with A Lister ($3.70), Apollo Seelster ($3.30), Joe Joe Joe ($2.80), and On The Big Swing ($2.10).

Vernon Downs returns to live action on Thursday, September 28 with a 10-race card starting at 6:45 p.m.
