Windsong Lord Rules At Flamboro

After just falling short in the fastest overnight mile of the meet in his last start, Windsong Lord emerged victorious from his test in the Thursday night (Sept. 21) feature at Flamboro Downs.

Windsong Lord was sent off as the 7-2 third choice in Thursday's $7,500 Preferred 3 Pace. Driver Colin Kelly drove him more like an even-money favourite, however, dropping the pacer into fourth early before engaging pacesetter Saulsbrook Peach (Robert Shepherd) first over heading to the half-mile station.

As the field passed in front of the grandstand for the first time, with that station reached in :57.3, Saulsbrook Peach and Windsong Lord were less than a length apart and continued pacing in virtual unison down the backstretch. Three-quarters was reached in 1:25.2, with Saulsbrook Peach still holding a diminishing lead turning for home. As the leaders straightened out, Windsong Lord found another gear to power past the pacesetter and trip the timer in 1:54. Pocket sitter Tero (Paul MacKenzie) closed up the inside for second, a length and a half off the winner with Bs Tyrrific (Bob McClure) closing off cover to nab show honours.

Five-year-old Windsong Lord (Badlands Hanover-Briar Hill) is conditioned by Duane Marfisi for owner Michael Beaver of Waterloo, Ont. Of Windsong Lord's five seasonal wins, three have come in his last four starts.
