Schrader Hanover turned in a ‘no doubt about it’ score in Sunday’s $5,000 Preferred 3 for trotters at Leamington Raceway, and he established a new track record for older trotting geldings in the process.
Rob Sparling, Jr. hustled Schrader Hanover to the position of command right from the outset, and a together the lead the field through fractions of :28.2, :58.3 and 1:29.2 before using a :30.2 closing quarter to win by four lengths in 1:59.4. Stolen Goods tagged along to grab the runner-up award, while Solo Victory took home third prize.
The 1:59.4 effort erased the former mark of 2:02.2 set yesterday by Spec T.
Karl MacNaughton of Clinton, Ontario owns and trains the seven-year-old son of Ken Warkentin-Southern Drawl. The gelding, who was claimed by MacNaughton earlier this year for $5,000, has been quite productive since the acquisition. Today’s victory was his sixth of the season and the 19th of his career. The veteran has banked more than $115,000 to date.
Local wine growers will be offering complimentary wine tasting during the Saturday, September 27 program at Leamington Raceway. Live harness racing continues Saturdays and Sundays through to October 26th. Post time for each card is 1:30 p.m.

Schrader Hanover was purchased by mother, Moree Thomas and myself from Greg McNair's sale. If it hadn't been for our patience as owners and Bill Borth's training and shoeing and patience as a trainer, Schrader may never have made it to the races, never mind how well he has raced. Schrader was originally claimed from us in Feb. 2013 by Karl MacNaughton. He is a great little horse for 1/2 mile tracks and we are glad they are doing so well.
