D Gs Camme, under the command of Ron Matheson, won the featured $2,400 Preferred on Saturday night at Red Shores Racetrack & Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park in an impressive 1:54.3.

Matheson, who co-owns the pacer with Hal and Quentin Bevan and Tom Clark of Charlottetown, hustled this year’s Governor’s Plate champion off the gate from post five and carved out fractions of :27.3, :57.1 and 1:26.3 before unleashing a 28 second final panel to win by nine lengths for trainer Jackie Matheson. Astor (Jason Hughes) was second with Shock The Rock (Corey MacPherson) rallying late to grab third. Team Matheson, along with the co-owner Clark, also scored with Van Zant on the program.

Driver Jason Hughes posted a hat-trick on the 13-dash program. The Stratford, P.E.I. native claimed the opening daily double with Ivegotmyeyeonu for owner Melissa Rennie of Charlottetown and newcomer Mach My Point for his brother Kurt in race two. The Hughes family affair continued when Robi’s horse, Stayoutofmyaffiar, claimed the $2,250 Open Mares Pace in 1:56.4.

Zip The Lip and driver Brian MacPhee won the $1,850 Open Trot in 2:00 over Abundaspin (Harold Shepherd) and Frill Seeker (Gary Chappell). The Donald Sweet trainee earned his sixth victory from 18 starts this season for co-owner Orville Willis of O’Leary, P.E.I. Sweet and MacPhee combined forces to win the evening’s finale with Pembroke Fella.

Drivers Ken Murphy and Marc Campbell also recorded driving doubles.
