St Lads Popcorn Returns

St Lads Popcorn, Canada's 2008 O'Brien Award winner as Two-Year-Old Pacing Filly of the Year, hadn't recorded a charted line since July 11 at Georgian Downs. That was until this morning's qualifying session at Mohawk

Racetrack.

With Jason Brewer in the racebike for trainer Jack Darling, St Lads Popcorn, a Twin B Champ bay, lined up in Post 2 and sat fourth through the opening quarter, which was clicked off in 28 seconds. Brewer tipped his filly first-over prior to the :56.4 opening half and embarked overland on the final turn.

St Lads Popcorn was on top by one length as she rang up the three-quarters clock in 1:25.2. The filly had a length-and-a-half lead at the head of the lane, but couldn't hold her position late. Thorpedia, a three-year-old Real Desire gelding driven by Jack Moiseyev, closed from third in the homestretch and posted a half-length victory over St Lads Popcorn in 1:53.3.

The track was rated 'fast' with no variant given.

Other winners this morning included the John Kopas-trained and Randy Waples-driven freshman Camluck colt Sonic Seelster (1:55.3), juvenile Amigo Hall lass Emerald Secret (2:01), and three-year-old Kadabra colt Parlay (1:56.4).
