Carr’s Panther Hanover 'Cup' Bound

Owner Jim Carr has decided to roll the bones and supplement Panther Hanover to Sunday’s Confederation Cup at Flamboro Downs – a race that will take place right in his own backyard.

"'Friday [trainer James ‘Friday’ Dean’] is a Hamilton boy and he got his start at that track, and so did I," said Carr when asked about the decision to ante up the $25,000 supplemental fee to make his speedball eligible to Flamboro Downs’ marquee event.

That’s more than half of what Carr paid to purchase the colt from the 2010 Harrisburg Yearling Sale.

The three-year-old son of Rockrnoll Hanover-Panned Out, who is fresh off the truck from New Jersey, turned in a jaw-dropping 1:47.2 performance over heavily favoured Hurrikane Kingcole in the $275,000 Anthony Abbatiello New Jersey Classic which took place during last Saturday afternoon's Hambletonian Day card at The Meadowlands.

And according to Carr, the pacer is fighting fit and ready to get back to the stonedust battlefield.

"He jogged at Mohawk yesterday and was great," Carr added.

When quizzed about trying the half-miler for the first time, Carr seemed uber-confident his pacer wouldn’t have a problem adjusting to life at Canada’s fastest half-mile oval.

"He has tons of gate speed, so it will be just the luck of the draw as he does not hit his knees," said Carr.

The Confederation Cup entry box closes on Wednesday, August 8 at 1 p.m., with the post draw to take place on Thursday. Post time for Sunday afternoon’s first race is 1 p.m.
