Fillies Impress In ATSS At Northside

Freshmen fillies were out in full force at Northside Downs on Thursday, as the half-mile oval hosted four divisions of the Atlantic Sires Stakes for the pacers

In the first of two $8,860 “A” divisions, Sweetwater Teaha wired up her foes in 2:00.2 for driver Brodie MacPhee and trainer Thomas MacPhee. The daughter of Astronomical-Keystone Vanity laid down panels of :30.4, 1:01 and 1:31 before kicking home in :29.2 to win by 2-3/4 lengths over race favourite JK Janaya. Pictonian Amanda was third.

Raymond Deagle of Inverness, NS owns the pacing lass, who improved her rookie record to 3-0-1 in five starts. She has stashed away just over $9,000 to date.

Bettim Theresa went coast-to-coast in the other “A” division for trainer/driver Jeff Lilley. The Largo-Bettim Amanda miss led the field through splits of :28.4, 1:01.1 and 1:32.1 before stepping home in :30.2 to win by one-quarter of a length over Cash An Clay in 2:02.3. Taking home the show dough was Southfield Sophie.

Danny Purcell of Newport, NS bred and owns the youngster who now owns a 2-1-0 record in four starts. She’s put more than $6,000 on her card along the way.

The $2,500 “B” divisions went to Gascoigne Astro (2:05.1) and Seeyouonthebeach (2:02.3).
