Yearling Sale Workshop Set

Fall is better known as 'Yearling Sale Season' among members of the horse racing industry. This is where hopes and dreams are launched as owners and trainers attempt to collar that next North America Cup or Hambletonian champion. The sport’s future stars will leave the breeding farm behind to begin their journey to the racetrack.

On Sunday, September 18, the ILCHR Fan Club will present a Yearling Sale Workshop in conjunction with The Canadian Yearling Sale at the SC Sales Pavilion at Flamboro Downs. The workshop will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. followed by the sale which gets underway at 12:00 p.m. sharp.

If you’ve never been to a yearling sale and are interested in attending and learning more about how to select a yearling and how to read pedigrees, this workshop is for you!

Fan Club members will be treated to a continental breakfast to kick off the day at 9:30 a.m. before receiving an overview of “The Sale Experience” with Heather Reid, Manager of Standardbred Canada Sales. Then there will be a lesson on how to read a pedigree.

Following that, the group will move on to the barns to visit the consignors with veteran owner-breeder Brian Webster. Webster will give a conformation lesson and will walk members through the process of viewing and inspecting a horse. Yearlings spend much of the showing day out of their stalls, in the shed row or outside the barn to be viewed by prospective buyers. These individuals look at these horses from head to hoof, searching for any potential flaws that could create issues later on.

Members are then invited to stay through the afternoon to observe the sale. 150 yearlings will go through the sales ring on September 18, so there’s lots of auction action to take in! Click here to take a look at the 2016 sale catalogue and search pedigrees.

The Fan Club will be offering this Yearling Sale Workshop package for $10. This covers breakfast, a I Love Canadian Harness Racing souvenir and the morning workshops. There are a limited number of spots, and you must be over the age of 18 to take part.

Contact [email protected] or Industry Marketing at (905) 858-3060 to reserve your spot today!
