A four-pack of freshman pacing colts and geldings lined up behind the starting gate to contest the $36,400 final of the Dream Maker Series, and it turned out to be a walk in the park for race favourite Control The Moment.

The undefeated son of Well Said-Lifesliltreasure and driver Randy Waples got away third, but they didn’t sit there for long. Waples had his charge on the move in the first turn, and shortly after the opening quarter flashed up in :29 the pair found themselves on the lead. Control The Moment led the group through middle panels of :56.3 and 1:24.2 before stepping home in :27.4 for the 1:52.1 tally. Mindtrip was next best, with Derecho and Adrian Hanover rounding out the top four finishers.

Trainer Brad Maxwell co-owns the colt, who is now 4-for-4, with Howard Taylor, Ben Mudry and Edwin Gold. The $47,000 purchase from last year’s Lexington Select Yearling Sale has now banked $37,200 to date.

Monday’s card also featured the first leg of the Pure Ivory Series for two-year-old trotting fillies, and youngsters from the barn of trainer Blake MacIntosh made up the Exactor ticket.

Rose Run Reanna rushed to the lead for driver Doug McNair, while stablemate Thisladysdynamite slid into the two-hole for reinsman Jody Jamieson. They sat first and second through fractions of :29, :59 and 1:29 before Thisladysdynamite popped out of the pocket and sprinted past the tempo-setter for the 1:59 decision. Rose Run Reanna held on for second, with Pennies From Above rallying to grab the show dough in the $12,000 event.

MacIntosh shares ownership on the daughter of Explosive Matter-Irenes Lucky Lady with Anne Campbell and Steve Waldman. The trotting lass, who is 2-for-4 to kick off her career, bumped her bankroll to $11,620 with the win. She was a $20,000 purchase from last year’s Lexington Select Yearling Sale.
