City Of The Year earned his first New Brunswick victory this year with the absence of his dominant stablemate Fall Bliss in this week's top class at Exhibition Park Raceway.

Michael Downey's four-year-old pacer City Of The Year journeyed first over from the back of the five-pack to overtake another Downey stable starter, Stare Down, in the stretch and win Saturday's $1,350 Preferred in 1:59 flat. Haunto finished over three lengths behind off a pocket trip while Cecils Express rallied off cover and edged out Stare Down for third. Magical Alex completed the field.

The win was City Of The Year's third overall in 2016 as he's had two successful prior outings as Bangor Raceway in Maine. The Royal Mattjesty gelding's three wins go along with seven second-place finishes and two thirds from 15 starts.
