Gold Cup & Saucer Trial #2 To Part Shark

Part Shark captured the second $12,500 Gold Cup & Saucer Trial with a gate-to-wire effort on Sunday afternoon at Charlottetown Driving Park

.

With Scott Zeron at the controls, Part Shark left from Post 1 and paced past intervals of :27.1, :56 and 1:25 en route to victory in 1:52.4. Favourite Panda Bear (Anthony MacDonald) finished two and a quarter lengths behind off a pocket trip and Royal Becquet (Simon Allard) was third.

Part Shark paid $4.80 to win as the second choice. The four-year-old gelded son of Four Starzzz Shark-Pop Art is trained by Wayne Preszcator and owned by Secret Weapon Stables of Waterloo, ON. With seven wins in 23 starts on his card, Part Shark has earned $67,755 this year. The 12-time career winner now boasts $174,085 in earnings.

The third and final trial for the 51st edition of the Sobeys Gold Cup & Saucer will be held on Monday. The top three finishers in each trial will advance to the $60,000 final set for Saturday, August 21. For a recap of the first trial, click here.

The second leg of the Spud Island Classic for open mares was also featured on the card with Abby Best (1:57), Grace And Harv (1:56.4) and Kiss Quietly (1:57.4) dominating their respective $2,500 divisions.

Six-year-old trotter Moblessinsdinblues, in line to Ernest Laffin, put forth a dazzling 17 length score in his third race condition assignment as he lowered the trotting track record to 1:58.4. Maple Leaf Hawk held the former 1:59.1 record.

Blair Laffin trains the gelded son of Royal Strength-Domonique Nelson for Charles Rennison of Truro, NS. Moblessinsdinblues is two-for-three on the year and has won nine times in his career banking $74,675.
