Field Set For Confederation Cup XXXV

Keystone Velocity and driver Daniel Dube rallied three-wide around the final turn and came on to score the victory in the second and final $50,000 elimination for Confederation Cup XXXV on Sunday afternoon at Flamboro Downs

Eighteen (Paul MacDonell) advanced to command ahead of Mickey Hanover (Simon Allard), Rollwithitharry (Mark MacDonald) and Townslight Hanover (Scott Zeron) en route to the opening quarter in :27 while Hare Craft (Aaron Byron) rolled offstride around the first turn.

During the second panel, Rollwithitharry brushed to command and cleared the top by the half in :55.3 while Wink N Atcha (Randy Waples) jumped it off.

Meanwhile, Rock To Glory (Jody Jamieson) moved underway from the backfield with the trailing Keystone Velocity following his cover. After Rollwithitharry passed three-quarters in 1:24.1, Dube rolled Keystone Velocity three-wide and charged home to score the 1:52.2 victory. Townslight Hanover finished a half length behind in second with Rollwithitharry coming in third. Eighteen and Rock To Glory finished fourth and fifth respectively.

The son of Western Hanover-Venus Killean is trained by Frank Kamine for owner Lauretta Galm of Dallas, Pennsylvania.

One race earlier, Prodigal Seelster went wire-to-wire to win the first elimination.

Prodigal Seelster and driver Scott Zeron took control of the field from the inside post position ahead Mystician (Rick Zeron) with Arsenal (Luc Ouellette) dropping into third and Up The Credit (Jody Jamieson) looking for a spot at the rail in fourth.

Prodigal Seelster reached the opening quarter in a flashy :26.4 and proceeded to the half in :54.3 while the parked out Up The Credit advanced on the outside and eventually found a spot at the rail in third.

Three-quarters was up in 1:22.2 with Prodigal Seelster facing open road ahead. The son of Camluck-Platinum Seelster kicked away from the field in the stretch to score the victory in 1:50.2 by three lengths. Mystician finished second with Up The Credit well back in third. Mystic Desire (Sylvain Filion) finished fourth and Bestofbest Hanover (Jack Moiseyev) earned the final paycheque.

Prodigal Seelster is trained by David Menary for Ontario owners Larry Menary of Cheltenham, Denis Breton of Welland, Kenneth Ewen of Georgetown, and the Double Or Nothing Stables of Hamilton.

The top four finishers for both eliminations, plus one fifth place finisher will advance to the $532,500 final later this afternoon.

Here is a look at the field for the final in post position order. Bestofbest Hanover was the fifth place finisher that drew in to the final. Mystic Desire was a vet scratch following his elimination and as a result the other fifth place finisher, Rock To Glory, will sub in and scores Post 1.
