Mendelson Recovering From Accident

Driver Saul Mendelson is recovering at home following an accident last Thursday night at Rideau Carleton Raceway.

Mendelson, 79, was driving trotter Disappeared and tried to guide his horse to the outside after making a break. Another horse came along the inside and didn't clear the width of the bike, causing Mendelson to "capsize" and, in turn, unseating him. He was eventually transported to the Ottawa Hospital.

"They were fantastic, unbelievable at the hospital," Mendelson told Trot Insider from home on Monday. "They released me right away and just told me to take it easy for a month. It will be a while to be back to myself."

Mendelson did suffer a mild concussion, the first of his long driving career. A 2007 Montreal Gazette story noted that Mendelson, who only drives his own stock, had won races in Montreal every year for two decades.

Please join Standardbred Canada in wishing Saul Mendelson a speedy and full recovery.
