Eight Is Great For Gagnon

Don’t be surprised if driver Guy Gagnon gets a call from Wheaties asking him if he would strike a pose and send it to them so they can use it on the box for next month’s batch of breakfast cereal.

Gagnon celebrated an incredible, eight-win performance during Thursday’s 11-race card at Rideau Carleton Raceway, with two of those wins courtesy of horses from his own barn.

He swept the first three races on the program thanks to wins with Heaven For Sure (Race 1 – 1:57.1), Aerial Flight (Race 2 - 2:00.2) and Miss Rockadali (Race 3 – 1:55.2).

He then guided Caviart Cari Ann to a facile victory in Race 5. The Jamie Copley-trained mare shot to the lead and never looked back while cruising to the six-length decision in 1:55.2.

Gagnon and Copley also clicked with Olivias Way (Race 7 – 1:57.3), Warrawee Time (Race 8 – 1:55.4) and P L Jasmine (Race 10 – 1:54.4). The Grand Slam celebrated by trainer Copley was nothing to sneeze at, as well.

Not one to rest on his laurels, Gagnon then capped off his brilliant night at the office with a come-from-behind tally with Strokin (Race 11 – 1:54). And as a result, his win total for the entire card ballooned to eight.

After the eight-win performance, Gagnon finds himself just eight wins shy of a major milestone – joining the 5,000-win club. He’s driven winners in excess of $23 million in his career.
