The parking lot was full and officials with the Dresden Agricultural Society were thrilled with the public response to Dresden Raceway’s Tuesday, July 1 program, which kicked off the track’s 11-date 2014 meet.

A report by the Chatham Daily News explains that overflow parking was needed and that track officials are hoping the facility can gain momentum as each live program of racing comes and goes.

“We're grateful for the community support.” Dresden Agricultural Society President Lucille Laprise was quoted as saying.

Laprise stressed how local live racing has a positive economic impact on the area. Fans told the Chatham Daily News that they were happy – yet some were surprised – that live racing was able to return to Dresden this year.

“I never thought it would happen. I'm happy about it,” racing fan Harvey Davies was quoted as saying.
