Pekoe Fashion enjoyed a splendid career debut in a division of Monday’s $120,000 Pennsylvania Stallion Series event at The Meadows, making a quarter-pole move like a veteran and destroying the field by 16 lengths

in stake-record time.

The stake for two-year-old colt and gelding trotters was conducted over six divisions, with Hall Harbour, Hawaiiancaviar, Fashion Astral, Broadway Zinger and Solvato capturing the other $20,000 splits.

Scratched sick from the Reynolds, Pekoe Fashion showed no lingering effects. The son of Broadway Hall-Orange Pekoe got away third, moved easily to the lead and triumphed in 1:57.2, shattering the stake record of 1:59.3 set by Hall Harbour only an hour before.

“He’s a typical Jim Campbell baby - looks terrific, brought right along,” Palone said. ”Most importantly, when Jim explains one to you, he’s spot on. This colt did it well within himself. Looks like he’ll be a sires stake-type horse.”

Sweet Gypsy Lindy was second while Keystone Wyatt completed the ticket. Fashion Farms owns Pekoe Fashion.

Hall Harbour broke stride in his career opener in the Reynolds. Monday, he sat comfortably in the pocket before pulling around the final turn and defeating Order By Me by three lengths. Early leader Bold Fresh saved show.

“He’s a big, growthy colt that has some ability but hasn’t figured it out yet,” Palone said. “His attitude is terrific.”

Ron Burke trains Hall Harbour, a son of Cantab Hall-Harbour Belle, for Howard Taylor, John Carver and Robert Feldman.

Hawaiiancaviar was the surprise of the stake, saving ground for trainer/driver Bill Zendt before pouncing late to score at a juicy 37-1. Lucky Yim was second, 2-1/4 lengths in arrears, while early leader The Big Thea Thea came on again for show.

“He’s awfully green, although he’s better than what he’s shown in his races,” Zendt said. “I was being careful with him and was lucky to get out when the horse outside us ran. Then he took off on his own. He should trot some because he wants to go.”

Shanamphilaniklou bred and owns Hawaiiancaviar, a son of SJs Caviar-Hawaiian Rose.

Palone drove four winners and Ray Paver three on the 15-race card.

Tuesday’s card at The Meadows features the $226,836 Hickory Pride, a Pennsylvania Sires Stake for two-year-old colt and gelding trotters, as well as a $5,000-guaranteed pool in the Pick 4 spanning races 12-15. First post is 12:55 p.m.
