Doctors: Bartlett Was Lucky

Jason Bartlett, recovering from an auto accident which occured on July 4 while Yonkers Raceway-bound, has provided another status update

.

The Yonkers' three-time defending driving champion --- who suffered significant head and left-eye injuries --- has been through an array of tests from a number of specialists.

According to Bartlett, he continues to suffer from headaches, but his vision is improving.

"All the doctors said how lucky I was, that the end result could have been a lot worse," Bartlett said, adding, "I've learned that there's no timetable for getting back to 100 per cent. Everyone with these sorts of injuries heals at their own pace, and I have to accept it. It's frustrating, because I’m not used to even sitting out one race, but there's not a whole lot I can do but rest."

It is Bartlett's intention to again represent the U.S. in the upcoming World Driving Championship, which will begin July 31 at Chester Racetrack and ends its five-track competition at Yonkers August 5. "It's a tremendous honour, and I hope to be ready,” Bartlett said.

"Before I forget, I want to say how much I appreciate the all the cards, emails and texts from owners, trainers, grooms and other drivers. It's really meant a lot to me personally, (wife) Kristen and our whole family.”
