Caliban Hanover rallied from off the pace to win for the second consecutive time this week at Charlottetown Driving Park in Saturday night’s $1,400 Open Trot

.

Fresh off a win in a conditioning assignment on Tuesday, Caliban Hanover and trainer-driver Ronnie Gass waited patiently in fifth position while Flashy Image (Gary Chappell) and Saulsbrook Balance (Donald MacNeill) battled it out on the front end through stations of :30, 1:00.3 and 1:34.1.

Dunmore Alpha (Edward Smallwood) came on to take the lead heading into the stretch, but Caliban Hanover found another gear and sprinted home to deliver on his pari-mutuel promise. The five-year-old son of Andover Hall-Crown Lavec stopped the clock in 2:06 over a track rated ‘good’ and three seconds off, with the pocket-sitting Dusty Lane Shelby (Corey MacPherson) finishing a half-length behind and Dunmore Alpha close behind for third.

Caliban Hanover notched his fourth win of the season in 13 starts and ninth lifetime for owner by Wendell MacDonald of Cornwall, PE.

The C.K.G. Billings Harness Driving Championship Series was in town on Saturday and Dein Spriggs captured the sixth race event aboard the Sean Macswain-trained Jazzmo in 2:04.1. Thomas Williams drove runner-up Smart Barney and Mitchell Walker guided third-place finisher The Tominator. The Series moves to Summerside Raceway on Sunday.
