Hanover Raceway's Season Begins

Great weather and a good crowd opened Hanover Raceway’s 51st season of pari-mutuel wagering on Saturday night.

Hanover fans enjoyed a new sound system in the grandstand and new LED lighting as well as a number of new promotions.

Teresa Marshall of Hanover, Ontario was the first winner of the "Best Seats in the House," sponsored by 92.3 The Dock and Leons of Owen Sound and Collingwood. Teresa Seifert of Hanover, Ontario. was the first winner of the "Lucky 7’s" race when My Friend Diaz won the seventh race in a time of 1:56.1.

On the track, Bruce Richardson, who was the track's top driver last year, started off the season with a hat-trick. He won race two with Oh Hannah in 2:03.1 for owner Linda Denis of Oro-Medonte, Ontario. Richardson was back in the winner’s circle after taking the fourth race with Adventure Luck for owner Bruce Winning of Madoc in 1:58.3. He also won race five with Tymal Flare in 2:01.3 for owner Glenview Livestock of Guelph.

J B Renaud got the ball rolling winning the opening race of the 2015 season with Sixth Man for owner and trainer Julie Walker of Owen Sound in 1:57.3.

Terry Fritz of Walkerton also had a good night with a win in race three with Preppy Art in 1:57.1, and won the nightcap with Campus Cutie Pie for owner Dennis Jewett of Wingham in 1:59.

Next Saturday is Pepsi Night at the races. Close to $2,000 in prizes will be up for grabs for fans of all ages, and Pepsi staff will be on hand showcasing some of their products in a taste testing table. Post time at Hanover Raceway is 7:15 p.m. For Wightman TV subscribers who missed the races, they can watch the Hanover Raceway replay show on Fridays on Channel 6.
