Shifty Shadow worked out a perfect pocket trip behind Cruisinart to capture Saturday’s $1,000 Winners Over Pace by 7-1/2 lengths and set a new track record at Northside Downs.

With trainer Edgar Jacobs in the bike, Shifty Shadow followed Cruisinart (Ryan Campbell) through early fractions of :27.3 and :57 while Big Decision (Jason MacNeil) applied pressure on the outside. Cruisinart turned back his rival, but Shifty Shadow offered up a new challenge past three-quarters in 1:27.2. This time Cruisinart gave way as Shifty Shadow unleashed as :28.1 final frame to prevail in 1:55.3, shaving a full second off the former track record co-held by Lexus Bandito and Crusinart.

Shifty Shadow paid $6.20 to win with the slight favourite, Dvc Done Good (Greg Sparling), finishing second and Sir Dutch (Bruce McGean) third. The seven-year-old gelded son of Albert Albert-Dax notched his second victory of the year and pushed his earnings to $1,252 for owner Dan Lewis of Blacketts Lake, NS. Lifetime, Shifty Shadow has won 28 times earning $71,964.
