Trotslikethewind Takes Preferred

Trotslikethewind retook the lead past the quarter and made the move stand up as she captured Wednesday’s $22,500 Filly & Mare Preferred Handicap Trot at The Meadows.

Dave Palone drove three winners Wednesday, lowering to 10 his “Magic Number” to break Herve Filion’s all-time North American career victory record of 15,180.

After charging to the front for Tony Hall in the feature, Trotslikethewind found herself pocketed by Tui. The seven-year-old daughter of Pegasus Spur-Familiar Goal would have none of it. She reclaimed the front and held off the late challenge of Firstclassprincess to down that rival by one and a quarter lengths in 1:54.1. Tui finished third.

Andy Rickert trains and owns Trotslikethewind, who now boasts $244,040 in lifetime earnings.

Brett Miller collected five wins on the 15-race card while Hall enjoyed a three-bagger.
