Appellate was in no hurry in the early stages of Monday’s $9,000 Open Pace at Century Downs, but the same didn’t apply to the way he performed in the closing strides.

Racing for Team Campbell, Appellate got away fifth for driver Brandon Campbell while Cool Cowboy charged to the lead and laid down an opening quarter clocked in :27.3. Iwontdothatagain brushed from second to first in the second quarter, and he was the leader at the half in :57.2.

Sabine Pass made a big move in the third quarter, and he gained a short lead while racing parked past the three-quarter pole in 1:24.3. Appellate, in the meantime, commenced a rally from third-over on the way to the mid-way point. He continued that charge after the leaders all the way to the three-quarter pole before using a :27.4 closing quarter to win by a length over Sabine Pass in 1:53.2. Taking home the show dough was Iwontdothatagain.

Raymond Henry of Calgary, AB owns the five-year-old son of Western Terror-Dropitlikeitshot, who hangs his harness bag in the barn of trainer Sanford Campbell. It was the fourth win of the season – and the 15th to date – for the career winner of $132,005.
