North America Cup eligibles were in the spotlight during Mohawk Racetrack's massive 18-dash qualifying session on Wednesday, May 8.

A total of six NA Cup eligible horses went postward during the session and were featured during the fourth, fifth and sixth races on the card.

Trot Magazine recently released its 2013 NA Cup Spring Book, an early-season gauge of horses eligible to the $1 million event for three-year-old pacers slated for Saturday, June 15 at the Campbellville, Ont. oval. To view the NA Cup Spring Book, click here.

Race 4 saw the Ben Wallace-trained and Jody Jamieson-driven Apprentice Hanover (the 10-1, fifth overall pick in Trot's NA Cup Spring Book) record a wire-to-wire victory in 1:51.2.

Over a track rated one second slow, Jamieson fired Apprentice Hanover, a bay son of Somebeachsomewhere, off the gate from Post 4 and proceeded to click off the fractions in :28.1, :56.4 and 1:25. The duo sealed the four-length victory courtesy of a :26.2 final quarter mile.

A pair of NA Cup eligibles finished second and third in the dash. The Richard Moreau-trained and Sylvain Filion-driven Dragon Again colt Evenin Of Pleasure (45-1 in Spring Book) was second throughout the entire mile, while the David Menary-trained and Scott Zeron-driven Badlands Hanover colt Tarpon Hanover (30-1 in Spring Book) rallied from well off the pace to finish third.

Race 5 saw the Casie Coleman-trained and Scott Zeron-driven Bettors Delight gelding Vegas Vacation (the 12-1, sixth overall Spring Book pick) take over the lead on the final turn en-route to a three-quarters of one-length win in 1:56.

After having gotten away third from Post 5, Vegas Vacation opted to bide his time through the opening half. Zeron had the gelding on the move along the final turn, and the duo tripped the three-quarters of mile marker in 1:29.2. The charge paced home strong with a :26.3 final quarter mile.

Race 6 also saw Captive Audience (the 15-1, seventh overall Spring Book pick) utilize a first-up move along the final turn before pacing home a winner in 1:55.

Captive Audience, an Art Major colt trained by Colin Johnson and driven by Randy Waples, started from Post 4, sat fourth through the opening half and battled first-up along the final turn. The bay had to defeat other horses in the lane before posting the one and a quarter-length victory. The fractions were :29.1, :59.1 and 1:28.2 before Captive Audience fired home in :26.2.

The other NA Cup eligible that took part in Race 6, the Casie Coleman-trained See And Ski (75-1 in Spring Book), finished third for driver Scott Zeron and was individually timed in 1:56.

Besides NA Cup eligible horses, O'Brien Award winner Betterthancheddar made his 2013 charted debut. The five-year-old son of Bettors Delight took part in Race 15 and finished third, beaten three lengths by State Treasurer, who paced in 1:51.3 for Dr. Ian Moore. L Dees Lioness also made her seasonal charted debut in Race 11, where she was beaten a neck by Western Empress in 1:57.3.
