Accolades For Brad Forward

As Canadian Driving Champion Brad Forward prepares to depart for Norway and the World Driving Championship, numerous dignitaries have offered their congratulations and best wishes

.

Forward recently received letters of commendation from Newfoundland's Premier Danny Williams, Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty and last but certainly not least Canada's Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

Before tonight's card of racing at Western Fair, Forward and Western Fair's Ian Fleming will present a a cheque on TV to Major Rob Dolby of the Salvation Army in London. When Forward was presented with his colours in April 24, Western Fair pledged $100 that program for each time Brad finished in the top three. Forward's charity of choice was the Salvation Army, and the cheque amount came out to $500.

On Monday, Forward departs for Norway to represent Canada in the 2009 World Driving Championship. The complete field has been announced by Det Norsk Travselskap, the host organization.

Forward's competition includes defending champion, Belgium’s Christophe Martens and the 2008 European Driving Champion, Roland Hűlskath.

The championship will consist of 20 heats, contested at five racetracks in Norway:

The winner of the World Driving Championship, first raced in 1970, is decided by the total number of points won; points are awarded on a 17-12-9-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 basis in each heat. The World Driving champion will receive 144,500 Norwegian Kronor -- or $22,000.
