Martin Wins 'Step Into Spring'

Congratulations to Lori Martin of Hanover, Ont., for winning the April Zoom Photography Challenge which featured the ‘Step Into Spring’ theme.

Martin captured an image of this Betterthancheddar filly who literally said ‘cheese’ while she was snapping the photo. The filly is out of the mare Bali Seelster and is owned by Lori’s husband Harry.

The filly’s stable name is short for ‘Bernadette,’ but her official name to be registered has yet to be determined. According to Lori, the filly is feisty, just like the character from ‘Big Bang Theory.’

“We had a ‘Sheldon,’ we have a ‘Penny’ and a ‘Cooper,’ and now our ‘Bernie,’” said Lori. “She was born April 5 on our farm just outside of Hanover during a wind storm (not as bad as this most recent one). She only just got outside for the entire day that I took the picture, as we had such crappy weather, snow, rain, cold and then an ice storm. It was April 23 when Bernie finally got out seeing the big world and trying out those long legs.”

Lori has won a $50 Fan Club prize package. Congratulations to the other finalists:

Photo 1 – Shannon Henry, of Arthur, Ont., for her shot of three-year-old trotting colt Edstone.

Photo 2 – Ashley Bochenek of Waterdown, Ont., for her photo of Piston Popper with Gary Rivest after his training trip.

Photo 4 – Martina Morrison of Harley, Ont., for her shot of Firestorm at dawn at the Shamrock Training Centre.

Photo 5 – Sarah White of Cambridge, Ont., for her shot of Luxury Vacation, having a roll with her buddy, Oreo the miniature horse.

Please check the website later this week for details on the May Zoom contest.
