Hiram Woodruff Underway In New Jersey

With a big stretch rally, Slave Dream captured first of two $18,000 Hiram Woodruff Trot divisions at the Meadowlands on Thursday night

.

Driver John Campbell and Slave Dream left the pylons at the top of the stretch and flew past tiring leaders John Pauls Legacy and Rompaway Alvin to win the night’s third race in a lifetime best of 1:53. It was a photo for place, with John Pauls Legacy finishing a nose ahead of Rompaway Alvin.

The son of Pearsall Hanover-Hunarie F has now won 5 out of 8 starts this year for trainer Pierre Couture. Slave Dream increased his lifetime earnings to more than $165,000 for owner’s Franco Cianci and Isidoro Russo.

Pine After Pine and driver Ron Pierce coasted wire-to-wire in the second division of the Hiram Woodruff in 1:54.1. Stood Alone finished a neck behind in second and Twin B Navigator was third.

Larry Remmen trains the four-year-old son of Muscles Yankee for owners Norman Smiley, Gerald Smiley and T L P Stable.

The Hiram Woodruff Series continues next week with an $18,000 second leg on Thursday, May 14 and estimated $45,000 final on May 21.
