Cowboys Dreamer A Princess

Cowboys Dreamer used a strong rally in the final quarter to capture the $80,000 Princess Pacing Series for three-year-old fillies on Thursday night

at Woodbine Racetrack in 1:52.3.

The long-striding daughter of Hawaiian Cowboy might have been considered a hunch play considering she is out of the Jate Lobell mare Mothersday Dream.

In Thursday’s contest, driver Luc Ouellette took the filly back to eighth position in the early stages and watched as the pacesetters laid down fractions of :26 and :54.1 for the opening half mile. Cowboys Dreamer was still sitting in eighth position at the three-quarters but had speed to chase with the third fraction coming up in 1:23.

Cowboys Dream advanced methodically in the stretch drive and was able to reach up by just over a length at the finish over Tien Tien. Artcam rounded out the top three. The winner returned $4.80 as the top choice in the wagering.

Despite the impressive effort by his filly, winning driver Luc Ouellette said we haven’t seen the best of Cowboys Dreamer yet.

“When we drew the eight hole, I was real pleased with the draw,” he said. “The trainer (Joseph Barry) was a little concerned but I told him the way she likes to do it, it’s probably to her advantage.

“She’s been shipping up and down the road four hours each way and it’s probably catching up to her a little bit. She deserves a couple of weeks off now. This was a good mile, don’t get me wrong, but she’s better than what she showed tonight.”

Thursday’s win was the eighth in just 10 outings this season for Cowboys Dreamer who is owned by Joseph Berry of Michigan and Louis Carlo of Ohio. The winner’s share of the purse increased her seasonal earnings to just shy of $100,000.
