"To win the Gold Cup & Saucer would be the biggest thrill of my life, but if I got to represent Canada I don't know that the Gold Cup & Saucer would
top it."
Ken Arsenault might just have a chance to win both events this year. In an interview with Trot Radio, the Atlantic Regional Driving Championship winner thinks he's got as good a shot as anyone heading into Saturday's National Driving Championship in his hometown of Charlottetown, PEI. The 50-year-old feels that this could be one of the last chances he has in an event like the NDC and wants to make the most of it.
"I'm getting a little late in life from the harness racing driving aspect, it's probably one of my last hurrahs," said Arseanult, "and it's almost like the Olympics to any other athlete, I guess."
Arsenault, a third generation horseman, feels he does the advantage over his seven rivals in one respect: knowing the horses in-to-go on Saturday better than anyone else.
"The big thing is that knowing the horses should be an advantage for me," continued Arsenault. "These guys have lots of driving experience; Brandon Campbell's the youngest but guys like Dave Hudon and Jody Jamieson have 3,000 drives a year."
