Big Jim headlines a group of 24 three-year-old pacing colts and geldings that have been entered to contest Mohawk Racetrack's Somebeachsomewhere Stakes, which will take place Saturday
, June 4 over the Campbellville, Ont. oval.
The Somebeachsomewhere, formerly the Burlington Stakes, will be contested in three $100,000 divisions. The divisions have been carded as Race 3, Race 7 and Race 9 on the 12-dash docket.
The Somebeachsomewhere is Mohawk's major stakes test for three-year-old pacing males prior to the $1.5 million Pepsi North America Cup. Eliminations for the NA Cup will take place June 11 and the rich final will be contested June 18.
After having made his seasonal pari-mutuel debut in victorious fashion last weekend in the $400,000 New Jersey Classic, Big Jim will headline the first Somebeachsomewhere division. The pupil of James 'Friday' Dean will be driven by Phil Hudon and will start from Post 2 in the eight-horse field for owner Jim Carr of Hamilton, Ont. Among others, Big Jim will face off against The Diplomat Stakes winner Up The Credit (PP5, J. Jamieson) and Upper Canada Cup elimination winner Prodigal Seelster (PP3, Ra. Waples) among others.
Early this year, Big Jim was installed as the 3-1 favourite in Trot Magazine's 2011 Pepsi North America Cup Spring Book.
Upper Canada Cup elimination winner Drain Daddy (PP5, Ri. Zeron) will headline the second division and will compete against Bestofbest Hanover (PP4, J. Moiseyev) and Lookinforadventure (PP1, B. Miller) among others.
Betterthancheddar (PP8, B. Miller) will headline the third division and will compete against Shadyshark Hanover (PP4, Ti. Tetrick) and Watermelonwine (PP5, Ri. Zeron) among others.
