Indiana Senator Calls For Probe Into State's Horse Racing Industry

A report yesterday by a television station indicates that an Indiana Senator has called for a probe into the state's horse racing industry

The wishtv.com report cites the Senator, Luke Kenley, as requesting the probe after persistent rumours of illegal activities in the Indiana industry.

Senator Kenley's request via a letter to Sarah McNaught, the chairman of the Indiana Horse Racing Commission.

The report refers to speculation of possible race fixing. The report also refers to speculation of ghost ownership of horses by IHRC officials and wagering by IHRC officials.

"Integrity through the industry is critical. This is a primary function of the Commission," Kenley wrote. "Without confidence that we are squeaky clean, we could jeopardize everything with the public and the legislature. As I informed you, I have asked the Superintendent of the State Police to investigate persistent rumors of illegal activities. We need to put this behind us."
