CTV News Atlantic has run an article profiling New Brunswick’s harness racing industry and how Horse Racing New Brunswick is looking at Prince Edward Island’s model as a way to go forward.

“The industry is not looking for a handout, it’s looking for a long-term partnership and long-term sustainability plan, which we believe is in the ‘Red Shores’ model in P.E.I.,” HRNB President Dr. Mitchell Downey explained in the report.

Dr. Downey said if the P.E.I. model is ultimately implemented in New Brunswick that "for every dollar of taxpayers’ money they invest, they get $10 returned.”

This year is an election year in the province and the CTV News Atlantic report states that many people in the horse racing industry are interested in the plans the various political parties have for the industry.

“It (money) could come back in all types of ways,” horsewoman Sandra Foley told CTV News Atlantic. “I just had the veterinarian here this morning and right out of my pocket I pay his bill and give the government $50.”
