Millionaire pacing mare Voelz Hanover prevailed in a stretch duel with Bullet Point to earn her 40th career win in the $30,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace on Friday night at Mohawk Racetrack.

Driver Mike Saftic sent Voelz Hanover to the top from post seven through a :26.3 opening panel and continued to lead past the half in :55 and three-quarters in 1:23.3 with pressure mounting in the form of Bullet Point, driven by Chris Christoforou. The top two were stride for stride turning for home, but Voelz Hanover persevered in the stretch duel for the 1:51.4 triumph. Bullet Point was beaten by a quarter of a length. Diving to the inside, Waasmula and Billy Davis Jr. edged out a pocket-pulling D Gs Pesquero, driven by Rick Zeron, less than a length behind in third.

A 1:50.3 winner in her season's debut two weeks ago and a runner-up in last week's Preferred at Woodbine, Voelz Hanover paid $5.20 to win this time out as the 8-5 favourite.

Corey Johnson trains the nine-year-old Astreos-Vassar Hanover mare for owner Richard Berthiaume of Pointe-Aux-Trembles, Que.
