‘Rusty’ Holds On In Preferred

Doo Wee Rusty wasted no time in charging to the lead in Monday’s $7,500 Fillies & Mares Preferred 3 at The Raceway at Western Fair District, and that proved to be the winning move for the distaffer.

With J Harris barking out orders from the bike, Doo Wee Rusty rolled to the lead and stole away with easy panels of :29.2, :59.2 and 1:28.4 before using a :29.3 closing quarter to win by a half-length margin over Topanga Canyon in 1:58.2. Taking home third prize was Windsong Glamorous.

Jack Harris of Hagersville, Ont. owns and trains the five-year-old daughter of Somebeachsomewhere-Girly Brown. The 11-time winner now boasts a 3-5-1 record from 13 trips to the track this season. She’s banked more than $110,000 to date.
