One week removed from an impressive 1:54.3 score, Tropical Storm Bi ($3.90) led from the outset and never looked back in Sunday afternoon’s (May 20) $14,500 Open Trot at Saratoga Casino Hotel.

The six-year-old Yankee Glide gelding went the fastest mile of any trotter at Saratoga this season when he and Jimmy Devaux wired their competition in 1:54.3 last week. This week, the Tony Ciuffetelli trainee moved into the Open ranks and went off as the 4-5 betting favourite, and he did not disappoint. Tropical Storm Bi made an easy lead and never looked back, recording his first ever win in the local feature in a 1:55.4, wire-to-wire romp with Devaux once again in the bike. Stirling Cadet (Frank Coppola Jr.) finished second despite getting a first-over journey in the feature, while the race’s lone lady Consolidator (Jordan Derue) earned the show spot in the Open for the second consecutive week.

It was the fourth victory of the season for Tropical Storm Bi.

Live racing resumes on Thursday afternoon (May 23) at Saratoga with a 12:15 p.m. first post.
