Support Trainers, Drivers In Giddy Up

Published: May 16, 2014 11:23 am EDT

We’re all used to seeing them in the bike, driving horses around Mohawk’s seven-eighths mile oval. Well, on Sunday, May 25, you’ll see them line up behind the starting gate car in shorts and runners and without horses!

Casie Coleman, Billy Davis Jr., Jonathan Drury, Sylvain Filion and Jody Jamieson will all be running the Mohawk oval in the Giddy up & Gallop 5K in support of Friends of We Care on Sunday, May 25. Friends of We Care raises funds to send disabled children to summer camp.

If you can’t make it out to run the event, or cheer on your favourite trainer, driver or other runner, you can still support the event by sponsoring one of them or any other registered runner.

To sponsor Casie, Billy, Jonathan, Sylvain or Jody, or anyone taking part in this year’s event, click here. We talked to Casie, Billy, Sylvain and Jody to get the inside scoop on their running background and routine. Click here to see what they had to say.

TRAINING CENTRE CHALLENGE

In addition, a number of representatives from area Training Centres are taking to the track to run for the kids. Sydney Weaver is challenging all local training centres to send a rep or two to run in the Giddy Up & Gallop and for people or owners who have horses at those centres to sponsor their reps. Joe Stutzman is running on behalf of First Line Training Centre.

The training centre that raises the most money for Giddy Up & Gallop will win a complimentary BBQ on the training centre site compliments of Cardinal Meats and Sydney Weaver.

In addition to the 5K run, the Giddy Up & Gallop also features a one lap children’s run for kids 14 and under. All kids in the One Lap run will each receive a free t-shirt. There will be a mascot dash before the Kids One Lap Run.

All runners will enjoy a complimentary BBQ after the run and there will be great prizes, some horses on site and much more! The races start at 10:30 a.m.

Winners in each age category will receive a unique horseshoe medal or trophy.
Tell your friends about this unique running event and bring the whole family out to run or watch!
