Funding Issue Cancels ATSS Event

The Atlantic Standardbred Breeders Association and Horse Racing New Brunswick have announced the cancellation of an Atlantic Sires Stakes event which was scheduled for

next week.

The scheduled ATSS event for three-year-old pacing fillies which was scheduled to take place on Monday, May 23 at Fredericton Raceway has been cancelled due to insufficient funding from the province of New Brunswick for the 2011 ATSS race season.

Each of the three participating provinces of Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick provide core funding for the ATSS program. This core funding goes towards purse enhancement for ATSS events in each individual province.

The ASBA and HRNB are working diligently to ensure New Brunswick race tracks are able to participate in the 2011 race season. Additional information will be communicated as it becomes available.

The ASBA administers the ATSS program and has been promoting the standardbred horse industry for over 40 years. The ATSS program not only encourages the breeding of standardbred horses in the Atlantic provinces, it also provides incentives for people to buy and race horses in the region.
