In thoroughbred news, NBC announced yesterday that it will be broadcasting the Travers Stakes on August 27, and the owners of Pimlico Race Course have gone on the record as saying that they are considering moving the prestigious Preakness Stakes to Sunday in the future.

An item on The New York Times website states that the airing of the Travers will be the first since 2009. NBC is planning on airing live racing from Saratoga over seven weekends this summer.

“This is a unique opportunity to expand our coverage of thoroughbred racing with these great races from Saratoga, a truly iconic venue,” NBC Sports Group President of Programming Jon Miller was quoted as saying.

An article by the Thoroughbred Times has stated that the owners of Pimlico are considering hosting the Preakness on Sundays as early as 2012.

The move is being considered in order to give organizers the ability to create a full weekend of festivities around the historic race.
