Feelin Flush Lowers Century Record

Feelin Flush took back her title as Century Downs' fastest aged pacing mare on Saturday by outdoing her stablemate with a 1:55.1 triumph in a $9,000 conditioned event for the distaffers.

Alberta's reigning Champion Aged Mare had posted the fastest mile during the Calgary track's opening race day on April 25 winning the Mares Open in 1:56.3, but then her stablemate, Sing Like An Angel, lowered the divisional record by one second last Saturday and had her name etched in the record books for a full week. The records are sure to continue to drop as trainer/driver Travis Cullen has commended the track crew for the early upkeep of the surface and noted that its condition is only going to improve with time, but for now Feelin Flush will retain the distaff mark.

Feelin Flush ($4.10) and Cullen were flushed first up from fourth past the half and tracked down the leaders in the stretch for the record victory. Skade and Gerry Hudon finished over two lengths behind off a two-hole trip while Blue Star Beauty and Philip Giesbrecht settled for third after leading through fractions of :27.4, :56.2 and 1:25.3.

Cullen shares ownership of the seven-year-old As Promised mare, who has won four of her last five starts, with Ken Hanson of Strathclair, Manitoba.

The 1-2 finish for Cullen and Hudon came right after the two horsemen were involved in a minor accident the previous race. Their horses appeared to hook wheels coming into the stretch near the back of the field and came to a stop with Hudon jolted off the sulky. The race was won by Rich Native, who earned his third consecutive victory at Century Downs for trainer/driver Ryan Grundy.
